The Canada Steamship Lines division, based in Montreal, owns and operates a fleet of 19 Canadian flag vessels (11 self-unloaders and 8 bulk carriers) that trade on the Great Lakes-St-Lawrence Seaway system. These ships are fully crewed by Canadian seafarers. In the fall of 2012, Canada Steamship Lines will welcome the first of its four new Trillium Class self-unloading Lakers as part of its newbuild program. Building on CSL’s long tradition of innovation, reliability and customer service, the new vessels will feature state-of-the-art technology that will significantly enhance the environmental and operational performance of the Great Lakes fleet.
CSL International (CSLI), based in Beverly, MA, in the greater Boston area, manages the international shipping interests of CSL. The company manages a pool of 28 ocean-going self-unloading vessels, 11 of which are wholly owned, ranging in size from handysize to Panamax. In 2012-2013, a CSLI newbuild program will introduce three new Trillium Class Panamax-size specialty self-unloading vessels. The three vessels will join the CSLI Pool throughout 2012-13 along with two other ships of the same class and design currently under CSL-supervised construction by Klaveness.
CSL Australia, based in Sydney, Australia, was founded in 1999 with the acquisition of two self-unloading bulk carriers from Australian National Lines. Since then, the operation has grown steadily and it now operates eight self-unloaders and a three vessel iron ore transhipment facility in South Australia.
CSL Asia, based in Singapore, manages CSL’s business in Asia. The company manages the operation of one self-unloader and of two coal transhipment platforms in Indonesia.
CSL Europe, based in Windsor, England, was established in 2011 and manages the company’s European business. Operating a fleet of conveyor belt self unloading vessels, the CSL Europe fleet engages in a variety of trades in the North Sea, the Irish Sea and the Mediterranean. The fleet includes vessels equipped with specialized sub-sea rock installation that are employed in the offshore sector.
CSL’s commitment to safety, security and the environment has been enhanced by its partnership with The V.Ships Group, for the management of both the Canadian and international fleets. V.Ships contributes world-class technical ship management, training and innovative industry practices that benefit all aspects of vessel management.
While new partnerships, fleet investment projects, employee training programs and innovations through technology all reflect the pioneering spirit of CSL, they also help define its commitment to safely and reliably carry our customer’s cargo on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Waterway and around the globe.
